There is also Frodo, and Sam who are trying to take the ring of Mordor to the mouton of doom to destroy it. That would end the whole war. There are lots of different plot lines to follow.

I think to book is very good. I like how it has lots of things going on at one time. He is living a good life: perfect parents, perfect brother, and an amazing vacation. As years go on, Dave starts to see changes in his family, especially his mom. Bottle after bottle, mom is past out on the couch, while daddy is off to who knows where. Dave tries to brush it off, but things get worse. The first hit is the worst, you'd think. After so many hits, slaps, punches, and kicks, Dave knows his family will never be the same.
This Story takes us on a journey of Dave Pelzer, a child that suffered the worst physical child abuse in California, and how he overcame it. Throughout the story, Pelzer's words make you feel what Dave felt and see what he saw.

This book has some of the best imagery i have read in a while. Every sentence made me want to read on just to make sure he was safe. I couldn't put down the book ever. Every chapter makes you wonder, "HOW could things possibly get worse?" when in all reality, it feels like you are living Dave's nightmare. Although the book is quite sad, It makes you aware of what really goes on in the world. I would recommend this book to anyone. It is truly heart warming at some points when you can tell how much a little boy loves his family and just wants to be loved back.

Taylor Genette

Both Delia and Karina fight over everything, and now they have started arguing over Vincent. How much the girls really hate each other starts to show when Delia shows up at Vincent's party with cuts and rope burns claiming Karina tied her to her bed, but she loosened the knots and got away. Things get even stranger when the next morning Delia and her two friends Britty and Gabe show up to help Vincent clean up from the party to find him dead on the floor, stabbed to death. All eyes point to Delia when the kiss on his cheek is a match to her lips, that is until Delia proves her innocence and how she was framed. Then there is another twist in the story and we find out that Vincent is Delias dirty little secret, and that she had killed him after all.

My Opinion: I really enjoyed this book because of all the twists and turns. Once you think you know who the murderer is you get another clue, and another suspect. Another reason i liked the book is because I got really into it, and was always trying to figure out who did it. Then when I got another piece of evidence, it brought all these new possibilities into my head and i just had to keep reading until the end. It was really hard to put down and I would definitely recommend this book to anyone who loves mysteries.

Bryanna Peters

Tex is growing up mostly with Mason in a small country home. With their father gone for rodeo season and juggling with basketball, Tex’s older brother Mason is forced to sell their horses. Negrito, Tex's horse, has always more of a human friend than a horse to Tex, so he takes it pretty hard. This action by Mason sets Tex against his brother.

But the McCormick brothers aren't alone. Mason's best friend Bob, Tex's best friend Johnny and their younger sister, Jamie, are considered more family members to them. But the three are forbidden to hang out with because they’re father thinks the brothers are a bad influence. Tex and Johnny always get into trouble and the consequence slowly pulls them apart.

After a sudden turn in events, Tex runs away into the city with a family friend. Tex endures a near death experience and learns his life isn’t all that bad.

Opinion: I like this book for two reasons. Hinton

Summary: Ponyboy does not take no for an answer, and neither does his older brother Sodapop, his other older brother Darry, and all the Greasers. Ponyboy who is 14 years old lost both of his parents, therefore his brothers who are very poor have to take care of him. Life isn't easy for the Curtis's, Greasers live on the east part of town, which is poor, a bad place to live, and is far away from the Socs. But it is not far enough, Socs live on the west side o town they have fancy cars, nice clothes, and get the girls, they hate the Greasers as much as the Greasers hate them. They are always getting in fights over random things, but Ponyboy has some of the best friends a man could ever have, Johhny. Johnny is just a little older than Ponyboy, but he is always there for him, even when they get in trouble by the Socs. Luckily Ponyboy also has A brother that is just over 20 years old to protect him and keep him away from trouble, but when things get bad Johnny gets killed in a fight which turns Ponyboys life around.

My Opinion: This is by far one of my favorite books I have ever read. It really grabs your attention to know that wow! this stuff actually went on in the mid 1900's. I like that we don't get the Socs version were they live there pretty little lifes we get the real hardship of what these Greasers went through. He went to school there until, just like every other year, he finds an odd thing happen to him. He was on a field trip and his teacher turned into a giant bat called a furie and tried to kill him. Then his wheelchaired greek teacher gave him a pen that turned into a sword called riptide. He killed the furie and left. He gave the greek teacher back his pen and went home. While on his way home, he sees 3 old women cutting a black thread. His friend Grover, gets into a panic and tells him to run home as fast as he could. When he got home, his mean step-father "Smelly Gabe" Uglanio, smart talks him. They almost get into a fight until Percy's mom comes and tells Percy to goto his room. After he gets in there, his mom comes in and tells them they are going to a beach, for summer vacation. At the beach while they are sleeping his mom yells "Hurricane..."Then Grover came on hooves and yells" Hurry we have to get to the camp! Danny is always the short one in his grade but his basketball skills as a point gaurd are excellent. Sadly Danny did not make his travel basketball team, the team thad his dad, Richie Walker, won a championship with, because of his size. Richie Walker, though, wanted the players that didnt make travel to be on a team so he created his own team with Danny being the star. Danny's team were the underdogs of this league but the team fought through adversity and surprised everyone by winning the travel championship, just like Richie Walker.

My Opinion: I really liked this book because I can relate to the main character a lot. Basketball is my absolute favorite sport an I love playing. I am also criticized a lot because of my size just like Danny. I play point gaurd as well and my specialty is passing which is just like the main character. Another reason I like this book is because the author, Mike Lupica, describes baskketball in a way I can understand and knows the game of basketball.

Jacob Francisco

The team of six saved the monkey and forty other animals that were held captive. Each kid held some animals in their home until they figured out what to do with them. The kids snuck the animals in a different zoo. The zookeeper and the security guy from the floating zoo found the kids sneaking the animals in the zoo, and everybody at the zoo got caught, and were arrested, but the kids and the security guard were set free.

My opinion: I like the book. There was a lot of intense action. These eleven year-old kids are extremely intelligent because they came up with wise, but sneaky plans to save animals from a floating zoo. The friendship between these six friends is so crazy, they would do a lot for each other. My favorite part of the book is when the dog (Luthor) chased the zookeeper and the security guard away from the house.

Annalise.B

His community controls everything to ensure that everything is convenient and perfect for all of the citizens. Jonas knows that he is different but cannot tell what it is. Whenever he goes to the Ceremony of Twelve he is assigned a job of receiver of memories. With this job comes troubles, because the community is so sheltered only this person has memories whether good and bad. Jonas finds out all kinds of things in his training for this daunting job. He learns such things like whenever people get released from the community that they are actually being killed. Each family is only allowed to have two children, and in this one case a child didn’t fit that requirement so they were going to release her. Jonas now knew that it was murder, so he packed up and left with the baby. The book ends with Jonas giving the baby memories of a sled ride, because the reality was that they were in the middle of a winter storm and were probably going to die.

My Opinion:

I personally loved this book. It had a lot of action and it really kept my attention. If you are the kind of person who loves action then this is the perfect book for you. The author used great cliff-hangers at the end of each chapter to really make you want to read on and so it kept me hooked on what was about to happen next. I really connected with the characters and felt for them and their problems which helped me to understand the book better. This book also was interesting because the whole idea of a perfect community fascinates me. Over all, this book is in my top five.

Ivey T.

The youngest of the sisters is Daisy, and she starts to suspect there is trouble when her boyfriend, Ryan, and many of the other football players, have gained a lot of muscle over a really short time. Things take another turn for the weird when people start seeing double. Along the way, the girls come face-to-face with their father and the relationship is restored.
Opinion: I really enjoyed reading this book because, it wasn’t ordinary, and I knew that every page was going to be funny and different than the last. I liked the book because most fantasy books have a story line that is hard to follow. "Dead is So Last Year" wasn't just fun to read it makes you appreciate your family, because in the books the Giodano sisters didn’t have a father. Meanwhile, Connie Lionheart is staying with her Aunt Evelyn, who doesn't really take an interest in her. After wanting to be in this society, Connie takes a trip to the sirens, where she finds out she's a Universal, or a companion to all creatures, and that Kullervo wants her on his side. In the end, Connie saves the oil workers, defeats Kullervo, and begins her training in the society with her new friend Col.

My Opinion: I highly recommend this book for fantasy lovers. I've always liked animals, and this book is full of them. The main character Connie reminds of one of my friends because they both have two different colored eyes. Suzanne Collins...

Nehan F.
Rogers 2
The Hunger Games
Suzanne Collins
The Hunger Games revolves around sixteen year old hunter, Katniss Everdeen. Katniss lives with her mother and sister Prim. She lost her father to a mine accident. Ever since then, Katniss became the "man of the house". Katniss Everdeen lives in the future country of Panem, which is controlled by a city called the Capitol. Panem is separated into a total of thirteen districts, each being responsible for producing, goods dictated by the Capitol. Once a year, minors from ages 12 - 18 are required to submit their names into a raffle. It's a punishment for a previous rebellion. It's a televised event where 1 boy and girl from every district except for 13 are sent to an unknown location in the world and have to kill each other until only one competitor is left. In District 12, the names called were Prim Everdeen and Peeta Mellark. Katniss instead volunteers to take Prim's place. Peeta Mellark had once risked a beating to give bread to a starving Katniss and since then she's had debt for him. In an interview at the Capitol, Peeta confesses his love for Katniss, however she thinks it's all just a farce played so they can receive sponsors and gifts for when they're in the unknown. Once arriving to the Games, Katniss fends alone while Peeta joins a group called the Career, but is later banished for helping Katniss escape death. As another punishment, one of the members slashes Peeta's leg into a gaping wound. In the middle of the competition, the Gamemakers allow a new rule; there can be two tributes from the same district that can win. Automatically, Katniss searches Peeta, and finds him wounded and camouflaged. Peeta then reminds her of the idea of them being lovers. After cleaning, and aiding him with medical supplies, she looks at the gaping wound. Becoming more and more infected, she sees no way to fix it. But the more and more she plays romance, the more food Haymitch (her mentor) supplies. Another look after Katnisse's useless remedies and it's gotten much, much worse. Then the Gamemakers present each district with a backpack that contains something they need desperately. They must retrieve it at the Cornucopia. Although Peeta insists for Katniss not to go, she drugs him and leaves. After the death of another contestant, and being let another chance at life by another, she returns safely. In the bag contains a vial of medicine for Peeta's leg. It immediately takes away the pain and stars healing it. News is given that Katnisse's life-saver is killed by the last contestant. All three competitors meet at a stream, but the last contestant is killed by Muttations (dogs). These muttations are passed competitors. Then a Gamemaker announces that the 2 winner rule has been revoked and there can only be one winner. As a rebellion, both fake an attempt to eat poisonous berries, but before it can go down their throats, they announce there will be two winners after all. When they return, Peeta really does show true love, but Katniss wrongly explains so now he's mistaken and thinks all of this was a lie. Haymitch informs Katniss that the Gamemakers and the President are extremely mad with the act of this rebellion, and if Katniss doesn't say she did it for love; everything will take a wrong turn for the worst. The book ends with Katniss hand - in - hand with Peeta, ready to walk in front of the Gamemakers for their decision.

Opinion: I enjoyed this book very much. It made me excited of the next page every time. It made me anxious to read the second book right away. The book was well thought out, and it transitioned greatly from section to section. I definitely give it a 10 out of 10 rating.

Leslie Castillo
